Reality Check: Directions in Contemporary Art since Ukrainian Independence

“Reality Check." Formalism, domesticity and technology, nature, and the legacy of Soviet oppression. Eight artists explore new modes of expression impacted by ideological freedom and open exchange with the West, launched by 1991 Ukrainian independence. "Reality Check" is being organized in conjunction with 25th anniversary of Ukrainian independence commemorations and features artists who have been active from 1991 up through the present. All of the artists are of Ukrainian descent [third and fourth immigration waves] and working with contemporary artistic developments.The year 1991 is serving as a springboard for launching new aesthetic ideas and addressing philosophical issues, directly or indirectly responding to Ukraine’s newfound situation.
