Ningxia Sights

Ningxia is situated in the northwest part of China and by the upper and middle reach of the Yellow River, near the Helan Mountain in the north and Liupanshan Mountain in the south. The whole land runs low from south to north, with the average altitude of more than 1,000 meters and Yellow River crossing her northern part. Her northern part is the plain area irrigated by Yellow River, while her southern part, mountain area with access to the Loess Plateau. She borders Shaanxi on the east, Inner Mongolia on the north and Gansu on the southwest. The total area of Ningxia is 66,400 square kilometers, with 5 cities and 20 counties under its government. By the end of 2006 the population is 6.037 million, of which one third is Hui.
