Aug 22, 2009"A Liberating Read" NPC is the first book -- and so far as I know, still the only book -- about the Free State experience. I found Brian’s insights useful and super-encouraging in the months leading up to my move. Now that I’ve marched for peace with Brian and otherwise moved the cart of freedom forward in NH, I can personally confirm that the New Pilgrim Chronicles are wicked-good and authentic reasons for being part of this wonderful experience.
Aug 5, 2009"It's all about the folks" Brian touches the heart of what draws Free Staters to New Hampshire to be part of this inspirational community. You are not alone! When I made the move five years ago, it was for the community that I could see would grow in this very fertile ground. I have not been disappointed. Thank you, Brian, for sharing your pilgrimage experiences with others like yourself who thirst for the liberty and self-reliance of a free state. New Hampshire is the right place at the right time and I am proud to be among the people who have chosen to take this stand in this place. As I commented to Brian when he first told me about the NPC project; “The social community we’re creating here needs to be emphasized, because I’ve always thought that’s the biggest draw the FSP has. It’s about the people and not just the activism.” When new seekers come to this community and experience what they can have now and see what they can do to improve on this life now, the FSP sells... More > itself. BTW, four Free Staters have now been elected to the office of State Representative among a total of ninety-eight elected candidates endorsed by a Free State PAC. That makes one-quarter of the House of Representatives who are aligned with our basic pro-liberty philosophy. I offer that as a ray of hope in this centralized dark age of socialism. The community Brian writes about in the NPC is a source of inspiration for those who are here now and those who are coming in the near future. So read Brian's chronicle and if you think this is a community you can call home, know in advance you will be welcome. The "Honorable" Calvin D. Pratt, Representative: Hillsborough District 7< Less
Jul 18, 2009"New PilgrimChronicles 2nd Edition " I picked up New Pilgrim Chronicles from a friend who suggested it made a pretty good pitch for moving to the Free State of New Hampshire. Well, it certainly does do that: the author writes in a very connected, personal fashion and seemed to be speaking directly to me as if I were sitting across from him in a coffee shop. He isn’t so much a salesman for the Free State as he is a “gonzo” journalist who likes to share the experience of being in the middle of a newsworthy event… not just covering it as a reporter for a newspaper. You feel he truly cares. But on top of the “come home to New Hampshire” message—or perhaps I should say, in the middle of it—Wright provides a deeper insight of what the freedom movement is all about, or should be about. He describes the current central American government system and its deceptive, warmaking machinery(which is killing everybody)and the need to think for ourselves, as opposed to accepting what we’re... More > told on blind faith. Finally, he shares information about promising new technologies that will make people healthier and help us live longer, and shows how the political successes already happening in the Free State will spread to the rest of the world. What a warm, upbeat book; I read it in one sitting. M.R.S.< Less
May 22, 2009"A Roads Scholar Embarks " The November 2006 Time Magazine article about the Free State Project coincides so fortuitously with author Brian Wright’s newly revised and updated New Pilgrim Chronicles that I’m wondering: when’s the movie coming out? New Pilgrim Chronicles blends travel-guide entertainment with a philosophical clarion-call to all who want to "live free and flourish" as governmentally unfettered as its likely to get for a while--in the New Hampshire, the low-tax state that's attracting a lot of people to its Free State Project. This book details the author's embarkation on a deliberate life among people devoted to liberty and grounded in the sacred nonaggression principle. Writing in picaresque prose, with folksy and candid observations (and occasional over-the-top irreverence), Brian Wright shares roadside reflections as he leaves his former home for “the Promised Land of exceptional high quality living for real people.” New Pilgrim Chronicles is... More > must-reading for those considering a Free State Project move. But even armchair tourists, or travelers traditionally interested only in knowing “Are we there yet?” will enjoy its pragmatic scenarios and provocative thinking. Therese Hercher< Less
Mar 22, 2009"A Chronicle of History in the Making" This book may be a prime source for future historians looking to see what life was like during the early days of the Free State Project. Like the letters between Jefferson and Madison during the Revolution, New Pilgrims Chronicles offers insight to the inner thoughts of pioneers in freedom. Also like those old letters, the book has a human feel to it, making you realize that it was written by a real person, with human feelings, desires, doubts and hope. The Free State Project could lead to the largest politically motived movement of masses in nearly 150 years. If that is the case, this book will prove to be first-hand evidence of the thoughts of these people in our own time.
