"Re: Re: Do yourselves a favour, folks DONT buy this book!!!!" Please desist from this bitter and jealous nonsense, Michael. You're only making yourself look pathetic. Opinion is one thing, but you're making potentially libelous remarks which is another thing entirely. And I would like them retracted. By all means say my work is crap, but then, why would you go out of the way to waste your time persistently commenting on something that was so crap?? And I can't have been that "crap" for you to have worked with me creatively for 20 years. HHmn... usually story - GREEN WITH ENVY!!!! The lad doth protest too much, me thinks......
"Good stuff :)" A thoroughly entertaining and suitably gripping selection of tales. The twists are nicely handled and the prose is fluid. A name to watch.
"Grim Rendezvous" Possibly some of the most banal short stories I've ever read. Mr Harvey's prose style is dull, and he seems content to recycle the tritest of old ideas without a hint of originality, flair or thematic depth. The only bright spark is 'Sidney' which has a bizarre idea, albeit expressed in plodding fashion. The overall level of writing strikes me as that of an unimaginative beginner.
It took me a few readings to fully appreciate the humour of these stories, but it was well worth the effort. Chris Harvey is a remarkably subtle writer. His approach is to simultaneously imitate and mock the cliches to be found in much pulp horror fiction, and the effect is both hilarious and deadpan. His deliberately poker-faced treatment of such tropes as 'The dead wanderer returns home' and 'The person you think is the victim is really the murderer' is satirical, well-observed, and very funny. A sparkling, delightful collection.
"Re: Do yourselves a favour, folks - buy this book!!" Brian you're a liar! you know that Hrvey writes shite, you've been ripped off by him in this book so why are you endorsing it? One story was yours let you allow him take credit for it. Why????????
