Great designers consider a project and all its parameters, developing a really strong design concept, and then brainstorm dozens, hundreds, even thousands of variations from which to edit down an appropriate, responsive, well-reasoned solution. This publication is a compilations of the author’s brainstorm sketching for that middle step. The sketches are more memes than prescriptions, suggesting ways to think rather than how to think. The ideas cataloged range from very broad to very focused. Prof’s White’s taxonomy as reflected simply in the table of contents has value; use it to push your own imagination to think up even more ways to configure a stair, situate openings in walls, respond to existing landscaping issues or to complex programs. Readers are encouraged not to take these sketches strictly, literally, or see them as the only options. Use them as a launching point. This book provides a push, a reminder that there are still more options out there, even after one’s own well of ideas has run dry.
