Had this book a couple of days now and it's got so much content in it and it's so useful. As an 18 year old guitarist who's been getting into more advanced theory and harmony for a couple of years now it seems to have every bit of guitar knowledge I would ever need in it. Although the book starts at beginner level I don't think a complete beginner guitar player would benefit without the aid of a teacher alongside, nonetheless a great book. The only other thing that the next edition could maybe have is a CD to accompany the musical examples in the book.

I'm the author and I definitely give myself five stars for this effort. If you're interested in seeing this book in more depth before committing to the painful price tag, go to www.geoffstocktonmusic.com and click on the instructional section, and you will find 12 sample sections of the book, each section between 5 and 11 pages. I'm certain that if you're a guitar player who's serious about your craft, you'll come back to this page and order a copy or two. Also if you're interested in what theguitarlesson.com had to say about the Big Serious Guitar Book, visit the link below and check out Tom Fontana's extensive review of the book: http://www.theguitarlesson.com/guitar-lesson-blog/guitar-lesson-review/geoff-stocktons-big-serious-guitar-book/

Knowing Geoff personally I am biased in favor of his work. That being said, when I first saw draft material from this book while playing with Geoff I was incredibly excited and enormously impressed. He is a musical guitarist, performer, video instructor, and teacher of exceptional depth and quality. Now he is now an author of note as well. He has produced a weighty and thorough tome that will take you from the absolute barest bones beginning guitar playing, up to extremely advanced theoretical concepts, notation, composition and approaches in theory harmony and scales specific to the guitar but applicable to all instruments. His approaches to theoretical concepts that are often misunderstood or poorly explained is a floodlight of intuitive understandable and always technically musically accurate help to the lost or confused musician. If you get this book practice with patience and diligence and take lessons from time to time to verify you progress and understanding, you can not go... More > wrong. There are only a handful of go to guitar books on my music stand, this one is will be on top of the stack for quite a while... There are a few grammar typos here and there in the first edit but the music notation and theory is spotless... It was truly a privilege to see this work before publication. Buy this book, dig deep into it and practice and you will grow..< Less
