This is the first referee-specific training manual of its kind ANYWHERE in the
world. Everything I have seen has been a hockey specific training program that
took the “Hockey Player” part of the training program, used some white out, and
replaced it with “Hockey Referee”.* I knew that wasn’t specific, because officials
have different needs than players.
Overall, this manual was a labor of love. To go along with the other manuals I
have written, including “The Power Skating Manual” for USA Hockey Instructors,
“Better than Buzzy”, An Athlete’s Guide to Heart, Courage, Perseverance, and
Succes, and “The Inner Game – The Six Inches Between Your Ears – A thesis
on the Mental Aspects of Officiating”, I do this one as I did with the others …with
the sole intention to help develop the next generation of referees.
