Pastor Cherry has taken an innovative and intruiging approach to a local church history. Often these volumes simply chronicle the erection of the buildings and perhaps the succession of pastors. Rev. Cherry has brought the church to life by talking about people, folkways, crises, challenges, ethos, trials and successes, dreams and obstacles. Throughout the book, we can sense the deep love of a pastor who has served decades with a congregation. Laced throughout the pages too, is a faith in God. Rev. Cherry ably identifies moments when it has clearly been God's intervention in the church that enabled the church to have a dynamic and influential ministry. Setting the book apart is its honesty - about human failings and about not knowing for sure and simply having to trust God. Always together! The book shows a church and pastor who value and regard each other. Anyone preparing to write a local church history would benefit from this book. I doubt anyone could imitate the style here, but... More > reading the book stimultes the imagination to consider what might be meaningful to write about one's own church and calling.< Less
