This book is highly recommended for those seeking an overview of all the latest sabremetric methods. Mr. Panas sets out of provide an overview of current statistical approaches used to evaluate batting, pitching, and fielding by the sabremetric community. Mission accomplished. This is not a breakthrough work with a bunch of new TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms). Rather it is a summary of the state of the art. As someone who followed Bill James and Pete Palmer very closely, but admittedly did not monitor some of the more recent developments of the past several years this was a great book. If you are looking for Bill James-like wit then this is not your book. However, if you want sabremetric concepts explained in clear, accessible language, then this is the place to start.
