Leonard F. Dean lived in Granville County, NC in the mid-1930s through 50s. After graduating from NC State University, he spent his adult life in Raleigh. He held numerous technical and management positions with IBM during a 28-year career in the Research Triangle. After retiring, he has been busy with volunteer activities. He is a charter member of the Granville County Genealogical Society, a frequent researcher at the State Library and State Archives of NC, and an award winning author for his two-volume history – "Hobgood Family of Granville County, NC before 1850." He served on the Boards of NCGS, Friends of the Archives, and GCGS, and taught computer skills. Dean is the father of four sons, a former youth soccer coach, a Methodist, and married to Sarah Andrews. He has four books at Lulu.com; his latest, "Courthouses and Courts of Early Granville County, NC," is a definitive history of its first 18 years with emphasis on the courthouses and courts.
