Ian Ross is the grandson of Herbert V. Wiley. After retiring from the electronics industry, Ian pursued his interest in history, beginning with research into the life of his maternal grandfather. Such is Life in the Navy is the culmination of three years spent studying Wiley's personal papers, digging through his extensive military records, interviewing relatives and retired servicemen, and visiting numerous archives, libraries and museums across the country.
