CSEP By Istvan B'Racz
Paperback: $20.00
Prints in 3-5 business days
"CSEP" is a chamber work for two guitars, percussion, and piano lasting about 5 minutes written in 2017. The word 'csep" means "drip" or "drop" in Hungarian. The... More > piece has a quiet intensity, as it builds to a monstrous climax, then subsides. The writing is intermediate for guitar, and percussion, as advanced intermediate level for the pianist. The music has a tonal center, but moves around quite a bit, and gets intense and atonal in the climax. At the climactic point, the pianist will have to play controlled clusters, and there is a small slightly improvised point (not much). The percussion only uses a few instruments: large bass drum, large gong, and vibes. In the first section the percussionist will need to use the superball-flumi mallets to rub the gong slowly to create an otherworldly sound. This work does not require a conductor, but it sure can help. The score and parts are included, and are printed conveniently on 8.5x11 paper so it will be easy to copy, and enlarge as needed.< Less

Contains Full Transposed and untransposed scores (and parts) for Clarinet in B-flat and Piano, as well as parts for C-instruments. The main constraints in writing this work were hand size for the... More > pianist, and technical abilities (high notes, speed, rapid tonguing, etc) for the Clarinet player, a language not too far out for a younger musician- yet had an intensity that they could grab onto. The three movements share genetic melodic material, and utilized various pitch limitation games in the creative process. The listener might identify some common gestures, and trans-sectional development. The Clarinet lines are rather long, and may be rather challenging for a younger musician, therefore, it is important to breathe at the ends of phrases in a way that is musical. The Clarinet is the star, and the piano is a powerhouse of sonic reinforcement. The influences are a mish- mash of Bartok, Ligeti, Prokofiev, Messiaen, Debussy, some minimalism, and some slightly French lounge music!< Less
