It is the central text for Arabian Gulf... More > (Persian Gulf) States postal history and it provides the 'numbering system' used by those involved in this collecting area. If you are interested in Muscat, Oman, Guadur, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar, Abu Dhabi or, more generally, the BPAEA then this volume is valuable reading.

The book is, essentially, a reprint of the first edition which was published in 1975. Due to the quality and method of printing the original edition (and limitations imposed by how this version was created) some images lack detail.

Time has added further information; the 'Supplement' can be acquired elsewhere.

This book is the key text for those wishing to understand the postal history of this area, but it is more than a dry postal history reference book--it is also a great read! < Less

2008 award winner! This booklet provides an introduction to 1st and 2nd Class Official Mail in the UK, with a focus on the... More > early years of the two-tier system. It has, as its basis, a selection of articles published in various philatelic magazines and booklets over many years. The only previous attempt to discuss these marks, of which we are aware, is by John F. Gilbert. His '1st Class markings on Government Official Stationery' was published in 1974 and is now difficult to find. Our booklet is the sole, readily available resource on this key change to the British postal system. This change has been ignored for too long. This study is based on 40 years interest in the area and is written by the Oman expert, Joachim Duester. Although centered... More > on official envelopes used by a rebel group for distributing their stamps and propaganda, it also provides an overview of the history of Oman which forms the background of the stamp issues, the 'legal' framework for the postal use of the rebel stamps, and the personalities involved. It also has an extensive bibliography of all references known to the author relating to State of Oman and Dhufar stamp issues. The key part, though, is a catalogue of the official envelopes. The book is thoroughly illustrated (in black and white, and colour), and very thoroughly categorised. Dates of use for First Day Covers (and the stamps used for this purpose) and ordinary mailings are provided. This book is important for everyone interested in the postal history (and even just the history) of Muscat and Oman. It is also of great interest to those concerned with Arabian Gulf Postal History. < Less

Professor Doctor James Hardy Dillard was a great American; this is clearly shown as few people have a University named after... More > them. 'Dillard University' is an incredible memorial.

But, like many others famous in their day, the man has started to disappear into history books. He should not be disappearing; his work at Tulane University and, in particular, his support of African-American education deserves to be better remembered.

This booklet is an attempt to bring the man back to life. It uses mainly covers (envelopes) written by or to him, to illustrate his life. However there are family photographs and an 'official' biography as well. It is, though, an unusual booklet in that it is centred on being a 'postal history biography' designed to appeal to those wishing to know more about the man and to the postal historian. The booklet is in full colour throughout and has many illustrations. < Less
