The Westminster Hymnal of 1912 was the culmination of years of work in cultivating vernacular hymnody and congregational... More > music. The music proper to liturgical worship is Gregorian Chant, and so no Catholic hymnbook would be complete without a selection of chant. Singing hymns in English is more recent and R R Terry did great work in wedding metrical translations to tunes. Each piece is presented in SATB with alternative tunes for many pieces. The introduction alone with its discussion of the divergence of tunes from the original compositions is well worth a read.
Now with extra indices added, bringing it up to a later edition! Refer to hymns by Subject, Author or Composer or by the original first line of translated hymns. Same hymns, easier to navigate. I have put a small fee on the download as it is large (~180Mb) and Lulu deserves something for hosting it. Smaller free downloads are available through the Internet Archive. < Less |

Veronica is the member of the Brandt Family with the publishing bug. She has been publishing newsletters and booklets from an early age. First attempts were using an Apple ][e, dot matrix printer and carefully tearing the pages to assemble a photocopy ready proof for her father to copy at work. Tearing is better than scissors as the joins are less visible when photocopied.
Many years have passed since then and now the Brandt Books are prepared with cutting edge open source software, especially lualatex, memoir, gregorio, imagemagick, the gimp and potrace to name a few.
There is a special focus on the musical heritage of the Catholic Church.
