David Bret was born in Paris in November 1954. Regarded as Britain's foremost authority on the French chanson, he has worked with some of the biggest stars in France, most notably with Marlene Dietrich, and with Barbara (Monique Serf, 1930-97) for whom he transcribed several of her most celebrated songs into English. Bret has lectured on the movies in Chicago, and made over 600 radio broadcasts worldwide. He has appeared in fifteen major television documentaries. The ultimate movie buff, his acclaimed book include best-selling biographies of Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier, Mistinguett, Morrissey, Maria Callas, Gracie Fields, George Formby, Rock Hudson, Rudolph Valentino, Elizabeth Taylor, Tallulah Bankhead, Doris Day, Clark Gable, and Mario Lanza. His self-published books, all with Lulu, include the "Brit Girls of the Sixties" trilogy, and Freddie Mercury.
