A researcher, university teacher, senior technical director of a pharmaceutical company, poetry writer, translator. He has completed a combined education both in Chinese and Western schools and universities. He received a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, a doctorate degree, and finished his postdoctoral study at the University of Edinburgh in 2000. He has published several books and textbooks, as well as almost one hundred scientific articles and reports. In addition, he has also compiled a poetic work which is pending to be published.
