About Gerry Mackey

GERRY MACKEY, whose father and grandfather were both NYPD police officers, is a retired Miami Beach policeman. Prior to starting his career with MBPD, Gerry earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Science Education from Florida State University. After graduating college in 1977, he taught Physics to seniors at a Catholic high school in Miami. Although he enjoyed teaching tremendously, the salary was unsatisfactory. By chance, a friend talked him into applying for a job with the City of Miami Beach and, after placing at the top of the eligibility list, began his law enforcement career in February 1981. 22½ years later, Gerry and his wife Kathy, a psychiatric RN and Captain in the US Army Reserves, (and their 4 dogs) retired to a 4 acre property in Tennessee.
