About
Gregory Lakey
I am a National Board-Certified Instructor with a Master’s in Education focused on Learning, Design, and Technology. Over the past 23 years, I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry, while developing and receiving A-G accreditation for courses like Accelerated Integrated 9th Grade Mathematics and Math 9. My work has earned me the 2024 John Morton Excellence in Teaching Economics Award, recognition as a Mathematically Gifted and Black History Month Honoree, and distinction as an NSHSS educator. As a passionate orator, I’ve delivered keynote speeches at N.C.T.M. conferences and led sessions nationwide. I champion an exploratory, hands-on curriculum that bridges theory and practical application. My projects include teaching linear equations with car ramps, exploring exponential equations through real-time banking data, investigating quadratics with student-built rockets, and introducing stock market analysis using standard deviation. Beyond the classroom, I’ve developed and led a summer camp for African American boys focused on Black Health and Black Wealth. My educational approach intertwines technology with student engagement, aligning curriculum with Common Core standards and integrating tools like TI graphing calculators. I also coach educators, advocating for collaboration and project-based learning to create a unified and effective teaching community. I believe in teaching that is collaborative, hands-on, and connected to real-world applications.
