Composer Jason Hoogerhyde aspires to create music that resonates with the more elusive elements of human experience: the dark corners of memory, life’s defining ephemeral moments, and the rare glimpses we get of our own integral connection with the world around us. In finding a musical voice for these varied facets of life, Hoogerhyde distills them to their potent essence, from the brash and out-spoken to the contemplative and quiet, cultivating works stemming from the firm belief that music plays a vital and meaningful role in human existence and expression. Hoogerhyde’s works for orchestra, opera, chamber ensembles, and voice have been presented throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He is currently Associate Professor and Chair of the Music Department at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.
