Julie Pujol- Karel (Irma, for her childhood friends) was born in Cuba and left her country in search of liberty due to the Communist Regimen.
Wrote her first poem on flight from Cuba to USA and has continued to write ever since.
She is the Director of the Hispanic Book Festival of Houston. Founder of the Poetic Palestra of the festival, of Conversing through Poetry and of Literacy and Poetry; these groups meet in Houston.
She has received many Literary Awards for her work and books nationally and internationally. One recent award was “Woman in Literature”, granted by Sucesos Newspaper and the City of Houston in 2009.
She has written six poetry books and dreams to continue writing.
A woman of faith, Christ is the center of her life.
Blessed with a son, a daughter, five grandkids, a lovely extensive family of sisters, nephews, and friends that give her courage to continue in her poetic journey.
She has an AA Degree in Psychology
