Susan Merrill began writing
this book because Lyn Austin
of the Music-Theatre Group
forgot that Susan was a
painter, not a writer, and
insisted she read a story
for a “Berkshire... More > Writers”
evening. The experiment was
a success, and Susan began
writing down her family
stories for her daughter Daisy.
Then Gail Ryan, owner of
the Williamsville Inn, asked
Susan to be part of a series
of storyteller dinners. These
readings proved wildly
popular and were a regular
event at the Inn for several
years. Susan continues to
read her stories aloud for
many audiences – most
recently for the Berkshire
Theatre Festival’s “Stories
for a Sunday Afternoon”.
As the stories accumulated,
they turned into this book
- Warm Morning. Susan is
currently working on a
companion volume about
summers in Stockbridge -

This novel... More > emerged from the experiences of 5 cross-country driving trips when I was a young man, and the work of trying to understand the world through a camera. The act of seeing, observing and witnessing changes us and this was my attempt at understanding that phenomenon. Sometimes you are the distant observer, but often the very act of looking engages you irretrievably in the lives of others.< Less
