Ken Anderson on leaving school joined the British Army as an Apprentice Radar Mechanic pursuing a career in the maintenance of aircraft tracking and surveillance radars followed by the development of radar controlled guided missiles. In 1963 he was seconded to Elliott Bros (London) to learn about the Elliott 803B Digital Computer that was then used to create a working facsimile of the US Army’s Field Artillery Digital Automatic Computer (FADAC) that then led to the development of the British Army’s Field Artillery Computer Equipment (FACE). On leaving the Army he progressed into the world of electronic design and computing going on to gain Masters Degree in Multimedia. Now retired he continues his many interests and activities in electronics and computing publishing a number of books on various allied subjectsa lthough he still misses the ‘pop, sizzle and crack’ of the sounds, smells and excitement of working with military radar systems.
