Twelve short stories about the author’s world in the small towns and villages of her homeland, the North Eastern part of... More > Greece, where river Evros forms a natural border with Turkey. Maria’s literary work addresses three themes in all her writing, a vanishing tradition of a life under simple rules of integrity and ethos, the role of the woman in Greece’s remote rural regions, and affection between man and woman, often unfulfilled. Maria has been writing short stories and poems for more than 20 years. In the last 10 years she has been publishing her stories in Periodiko, an Arts magazine from Kavala, Greece. She has been fascinated by her country's tradition and the purity of older people that appear to gradually vanish from the region of Northern-Eastern Greece and the villages there. Her work is filled with emotion, partner and parental love, integrity of characters, sacrifice, and above all, the role of the woman in that 'older' world that doesn't seem to exist anymore.
