Rommy Lopat has owned and cared for Montelona Farm in Richmond, Illinois, since 1987. This book represents her years of research on the original owner of the farm and the town and county he "discovered" in 1837. Lopat is an award-winning garden writer, landscape and architectural historian, and conservationist. She lives in Lake Forest, Illinois, with her husband, John Drummond.
