Another word for the study of ethics could be civics. Civics looks through the lens of our identity as citizens. What rights and responsibilities do citizens have?
To identify rights, we go directly to the US Constitution. The First Amendment in the Bill of Rights is a good place to start. To name responsibilities - I would say - go to the same place. We have a right to speak, we have a responsibility to speak. We have a right to publish, we have a responsibility to publish. We have a right to get together with others of like purpose and collectively act, we have a responsibility to do the same.
