About
Clark B Hanmer
Dr Hanmer and his wife Debby live in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Debby is a plant pathologist who is a professor at UNC-Pembroke. Clark is a family physician who was in solo office practice until his cancer diagnosis in later 2015. They have two children. Dr Hanmer's medical career spans 35 years with stints in MI, WI, NC, PA, OH, IA, and MN, including rural office practice, residency education, quality management, EMR installation, department chair, and rural emergency care. When he developed cancer, his change of focus was abrupt, but his love for learning and for educating others did not miss a beat. This story is full of unexpected questions, unusual perspectives, and insights into the workings of our healthcare system. He goes so far as to challenge the NIH to reexamine its criteria for entry into some clinical trials. In asking the right question, he became the subject of their Grand Rounds on 10/5/16. Clearly, he's not your average family doctor...
