Noel Schutz received his Ph.D. in the Anthropology Department of Indiana University in 1975 as a student of Carl Voegelin. His dissertation was on ;Shawnee myth and ethnohistory. During his career he was a professor at Reed College, Oregon, Florida Central University, Florida, the University of Oregon, San Jose State University, National Central University, Taiwan, and National Chi Nan University, Taiwan. Much of his career he was involved in English as a Second Language and as a director4 of ESL programs and institutes for Air University, Alabama, ELS Language Centers (Washington, D.C., Miami, Florida, Taipei, Taiwan, and Santa Monica, California). American Language Academy, Tampa, Florida, and the Language Research Institute, Taipei, Taiwan. He is currently living in an Austronesian (Bunun) village in the mountains of Central Taiwan with his wife Judy K. L. Wu, a native Bunun. He is presently engaged in writig several books on the Shawnee and studies arelating to the New Testament and Early Christianity.
