Cuban Master Drummer & Percussionist, was born in a day of October in Havana.
He has played with great musicians such as Danilo Pérez, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Giovanni Hidalgo, Nicolás Reynoso, Eddie Gómez, John Faddis, Mark Kramer, Mike Orta, Gary Campbell, Gary Keller, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Charlie Sepúlveda, Omara Portuondo, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Elena Burke, Malena, Celeste Mendoza, Roberto Roena, Albita, María Martha Serra Lima, and Chichí Peralta.
Fidel directed the reknown salsa and timba group Orquesta Layé, creating a unique sound. He is the composer of Cuban dance classics “La Expresiva” and “Mamina”, among others. His album "Salsa Son Timba" was released in 2005.
He is an experienced clinician and has taught Drums Clinics in Europe, Panama, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Chile, and United States. At present, Fidel is professor of Drum Set for the Jazz and Afro Caribbean Music Department at the prestigious Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
Fidel Morales, Cuban master drummer & percussionist, has published his first book for all those interested in Afro-Cuban Rythms. In "Afro-Cuban Techniques for Drum set and Percussion", Fidel explains fundamentals such as clave, patterns, interdependence, "3 against 2", and ostinatos, among other techniques. These will allow Afro-Cuban drum set students, percussionists, and all musicians who study this book to progressively internalize the concept of this music and incorporate it to their performances.
