This is the journal of our ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Canada. We went from cosmopolitan Vancouver to the flaming autumn colours of Nova Scotia to get the best chance of experiencing the... More > great variety of population, architecture and geography. Netta wanted to see Toronto and the Niagara Falls. James could not resist a weekly dose of culture and a glacier or two. We both wanted to see the scenery of the ‘inner passage’ and the world famous Burchart Gardens were a must. Unexpected highlights included an encounter with bears and visits to museums. We also loved the surreal architecture in Toronto. Dare one mention the night spent in Klondike Kate’s brothel? Medical problems also added to the sense of adventure! We hired cars on the east and west coasts and had an amazing four-day trip on the Trans Canada Railway, an adventure in itself that led to an experience which shows that fact is stranger than fiction. Canada is vast, but the world, despite its size, is smaller than you think.< Less
In 2009 I decided to walk from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. That is about 800Km. My daughter accompanied me for the first week then I made numerous friends along the way and... More > finally arrived in Santiago just in time to meet my brother. We explored the town for a couple of days then walked to Finisterre and Muxia. The following year I was invited to speak at the TestIstanbul IT conference and decided to make the most of the opportunity by taking a few days afterwards to explore the country. My brother once again came with me and we had numerous adventures. They say travel broadens the mind but nobody remembers to tell you it is also fun!< Less
