Larry Vaincourt
Award-winning columnist Larry Vaincourt previously published two successful volumes of prose and poetry: RHYMES AND REFLECTIONS and DON’T BURN THE BIFFY. He is best known for his moving poem JUST A COMMON SOLDIER (A Soldier Died Today), which has been reprinted thousands of times worldwide. Born in upstate New York, Larry grew up as a farm boy in the rural setting of Covey Hill, Quebec. In WW II he served as aircraft mechanic and part-time entertainer, returning to Quebec in 1946. Larry’s prose and poetry appeared for over 20 years in the Canadian journals DIALOGUE and MAIN STREET, and can also be read on his web site (www.vaincourt.homestead.com). For many years his poetry was broadcast on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation program FRESH AIR. Larry received the 2004 Column of the Year Award from the Quebec Newspapers Association. Sadly, the world lost Larry on April 20th, 2009. His work's legacy is handled by his son Randy ([email protected]).
