The Gold-Bug

This is one of Edgar Allan Poe’s best short stories, which breaks away from his traditional style of terror and horror, giving way to an investigative story. Likewise, this tale is considered as one that involves a detective, like the three stories of C. Auguste Dupin: The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Mystery of Marie Rogêt and The Purloined Letter. On the other hand, the protagonist, William Legrand, who is eccentric, little-understood and considered crazy by his friend and the servant, presents certain traits of Sherlock Holmes. He is methodical, organized, and joins clues to search for a pirate’s treasure. No one believes in him, but, at the end the result is amazing.
