Software Development. An Engineering Discipline? A Recognised Profession?

In this text an overview is given of the progress that is made in some aspects of professionalism in software development. Attention will be paid to the discipline, the body of knowledge and the curriculum. The text is meant for people who are interested in the professional aspects of software development: to give them an overview of the progress that is being made and to point to possibly interesting literature. No new facts or figures will be given; the author gives his interpretation of an existing evolution, largely based on the literature.
