In a memory that haunts many Holocaust survivors, Anna Kaczmarek relives the pain and fear of German occupation. Receiving news from a friend that her purpose as a farmer for the German army was vastly becoming expendable, she left with her five year old little brother. From there the story picks up to a riveting run to anywhere that could be called a safe place. On the way, she runs into a Nazi defect. For him she feels this strange confliction that would betray her people. Through him, she and many others find the safety they covet.
