The Spaces Between may start down a familiar path, but quickly spins out of control, and we find ourselves engrossed in a captivating series of events that end quite unexpectedly. The ending is by far one of the most surreal and unique in the genre.
Belden is a small nation bordered by mountainous Welcfer. It is flat and meaningless so are its people. Magic exists, but it relates more to the atomic energy/quantum physics. But nobody knows this.
A drunken lout meets a traveling mercenary who somehow convinces him to go on a great quest. He’s going to visit a great warlock, and thinks he can learn magic from him. The two meet a mage who agrees to follow for a short distance, but ends up staying with them, and they have run-ins with trained assassins, an exotic liqueur, and the requisite demons.
The story introduces a simple-minded man, who we would say has Asperger's syndrome. His story is told from the first person. He is being guided along by a dead man. And guess where he is going?
