This photo essay consists of two bodies of my photography, my 30 Minutes series and Arson Series of photographs. In the 30 Minutes series I was wishing to document an American fascination with figures of authority, police activities and criminality, as presented in the evening television news, or witnessed in the TV reality programming seen during prime time, as a result I created a series of images in 2000. These Black and White images have been presented with their manufactured roll film markings as one might see in an enlarged contact sheet. The concept behind the work was to channel surf the nightly array of programming during a typical evening in New York City, and document what one would find during a given 30 minute viewing. In doing this, I chose to record the content as it was, in an effort to draw attention to what I regarded as a cultural obsession. The photographs of The Arson Series, consisted of several images, which documented the remains of a Synagogue, which was burned along with my Brooklyn studio, during an arson attack on my building in 1989.
