John Mooney is a semi-retired racing journalist and former editor at the Press Association. He was ‘The Duke’ in the Yorkshire Post for many years and has written for numerous national newspapers. Brought up amongst the gamblers and illegal bookies in Hull’s thriving fishing community in the 1950’s, he started his working life as a clerk in betting shops, racecourses and dog tracks before graduating to journalism. John’s experience of the subject and of the era makes Walk the Walk a vivid tale featuring the many characters frequenting the world of gambling and their never ending battle with the mortal enemy, the bookies.
