We were subways in a field of combines. That town was no place for kids like us. The first time I heard the Cure it was 1986, during a featured artist block on a show called Friday Night Videos. The first song was "Let's Go To Bed". That was my sledghammer to television moment. And so, I burned my town and built a city in my bedroom-- just me, music, and a pencil. I wrote myself into a bus seat and left. I was born passing through; small towns fit too tightly. So big kids in small towns: Move into your minds. Paint pictures. Write yourself gone. One day, the sounds of misunderstood will feel like a homecoming. This book is for you!
