A transcription and translation of an untitled manuscript by Fiore dei Liberi, commonly known as "The Morgan", an illustrated treatise on the late mediaeval art of arms from the first decade of the fifteenth century. Catalogued as MS.383, it is held by the Morgan Library and Museum. Unfortunately the manuscript is missing many pages and lacks many details found in his other works.
Fiore dei Liberi was an accomplished soldier, duelist and martial instructor to the nobles of northern Italy whose career spanned the last part of the fourteenth and the beginning of the fifteenth centuries. Four of his works are known to survive to this day, with "Il Fior di Bataglia" being the longest and most detailed.
Transcribed and translated by Bruno Nicoletti, a modern practitioner of Fiore's arts, this book is a valuable primary source for students of historical martial arts.
Unlike Armizare Press's other translations of Fiore's work, this book cannot reproduce the original manuscript as the rights to the scans could not be secured. However scans are publicly available on the Morgan Library's website, links to which are provided.
