Misoprostol is a prostaglandin E1 analog synthesized with several medicinal uses. It was first created in the 1970s, and because of its significance in a number of treatments, it is listed in the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. Misoprostol causes the induction of uterine contractions and protects the lining of the stomach by acting similarly to natural prostaglandins.
