Along the way he fends of cannibals and meets a new companion 'Friday'. Although he lives on the island for many years one day he hopes to return to his native England. First published in 1719, Robinson Crusoe is a classic novel of adventure that has influenced and provided the source for a host of novels, films and stage productions.
