This workbook is designed to be used in conjunction with Ebenezer Prout's "Harmony: Its Theory and Practice," editions 16 and after. The purpose of this workbook is to allow students to complete the exercises without having to copy them from Prout's textbook into a blank music manuscript book. Prout is sometimes remembered today for his mildly whimsical words to all the subjects of the 48 fugues in J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier; but his greatest contribution surely rests on his impressive pedagogical texts. "Harmony: Its Theory and Practice" (and its "Analytical Key to the Exercises"), which is thorough to a degree not often seen today, and has much to offer any serious student of common-practice-era harmony and theory.
