GARLAND Issue 2

GARLAND is a guest-edited biannual literary magazine by fifth wheel press. Named for a garland of sonnets, this magazine will be exclusively shaped by fifth wheel press community members. Twice a year, we invite a guest editor or collaborative editorial team to curate an issue based on their vision. This is what gender studies scholar Judith Butler calls 'the critical promise of fantasy:' the unparalleled ability of unfettered imagination and speculative stories to challenge the status quo by questioning, defamiliarizing, and reimagining our traditions, ethics, environments, histories, and cultural narratives. For this call, I am looking for speculative work by queer writers that engages in some way with these critical, alternate imaginings, such as by unapologetically forefronting queer lives; considering our past, present, and/or future through a new lens; imagining alternate futures, mythologies, and worlds—however you engage with the critical, queer promise of fantasy."
