It is the 1860's, and Sid finds himself stuck after he runs from his Conferate-believing parents and joins the Union army. And on top of that, Sid winds up running with a black man on his way to sign up. Both determined to find freedom, one running for it and one fighting for it, the young men become friends against all odds. Nevertheless, after Sid signs up, Jeremiah knows he has to go and try to make it to the freeland. Months later, after a dangerous fist fight with a comrad and a new friend, Sid sees Jeremiah again, this time in a way he would least expect it. With twists and turns on every page, this book shows three worlds- slaves, Confederates and the Union as they collide in the heart of the broken states of America.
