Between the Rivers

It's 18-ot something in the Utah Territory. Or maybe the far edges of the Kansas Territory. Gideon Fletcher isn't too sure about the details, but he is absolutely definite that between the Rivers is a tough place to be. You see, without asking his permission, life has handed him exactly what he does not want, precisely when he needs it most. The folks in Caswell Crossing fully believe he is guilty of rustling cattle, and sheep, and chickens, and anything else that wasn't tied down. The sheriff of Caswell Crossing figures he is guilty of 'willfully'. Willfully anything. On multiple counts. The Rivers (all four brothers, a father and an uncle by adoption) figure he is guilty of not knowing a good thing when he is hit upside the head with it. Gideon sort of figures they are all flat out loco.
