The Greatest Mountian

For years I’ve returned to Katahdin, drawn to her quiet power and the way she changes moods—sometimes fierce, sometimes gentle, always unforgettable. These photographs capture her many moods, but they also honor a mountain with a story far older than any camera lens. Katahdin has long been sacred to the Wabanaki peoples, a place of deep spiritual significance and the heart of countless stories passed down through generations. The Native American people consider Katahdin to be a living spiritual being!. Katandin is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, calling to long-distance hikers who end their journey on her granite crown. That moment—when months of hope, hardship, and determination culminate at the summit—is part of what makes this mountain a symbol of both challenge and grace. The surrounding wilderness of Baxter State Park exists because Governor Percival Baxter believed Katahdin should be kept “forever wild,” protected for all who seek its solitude and strength. Thanks to that vision, the mountain remains a sanctuary where nature leads and people follow with humility. This calendar is a small tribute to all of her history, her spirit, and the connection so many of us feel when we stand in her shadow. I hope these images bring you a piece of Katahdin’s magic throughout the year.
