Steve Bachman, a multi-million dollar novelist, capsizes his yacht in the Pacific ocean, but does he survive the accident? Fan Jade Millar knows everything about his books. Bullied at school, Jade uses Bachman’s novels as a means of escape. Her friends and her ‘real’ self only exist in the Bachman chatrooms. Reading his latest novel off the Internet Jade notices some very strange things. The book is too like Bachman, even for Bachman. That’s when things get really weird. Two men start to follow Jade and there is an explosion at her house. Everything is going crazy, including Jade. Is it real, or has Jade lost the plot and become one of Bachman’s characters?
