SPOOK was a transition comic...it was previously Shock Detective, then when it became SPOOK the first issue (#22) was SPOOK DETECTIVE CASE and by the next issue was SPOOK SUSPENSE & MYSTERY. Obviously Star Comics was moving from crime-based stories to horror-based stories. This was typical of the day, as companies were finding that horror comics brought in the readers during the last pre-code years of the early 1950s. SPOOK only lasted about a year, but with the controversial stories, great art by masters such as Jay Disbrow, L.B. Cole and others, it's a must-have for any 1950s comic collector. Gwandanaland and Midcentury Comics have seven thrilling issues (#22-26, #28 & #30) in one great book – just enough for you to be completely SPOOKed!
This is by and large a reprint book, with stories taken from all over the Golden Age comics spectrum. Many are considered by the experts to be original, but given the changes made to stories they could be wrong. You should not let this deter you, however, because while some of the stories might be found in other places, they are colorful and exciting examples of the genre, and the way they are collected here provides a spectacular experience.
