I made this workbook for kids who are a little older — tweens and teens on the autism spectrum, ages 10 and up — because most of what's out there is written for much younger children, or reads like a clinical handout instead of something a real teenager would actually want to pick up. It leans on ideas from ABA therapy and developmental psychology, but you won't find jargon here. It reads more like a conversation than a textbook. Each chapter breaks a big, sometimes overwhelming topic into small steps, with room to write, check boxes, and figure things out at your own pace. Inside, there are 12 chapters and more than 30 pages to work through, covering things like: - naming and understanding emotions, including the ones that feel confusing or mixed up - picking up on social cues and getting through a conversation without it feeling awkward - friendship — what a good one actually looks like, and how to fix it when something goes sideways - asking for help and saying what you need, even when that feels hard - morning routines, evening routines, homework routines — the stuff that makes daily life less chaotic - getting ready for high school, before it happens, not after - a chapter of real questions teens on the spectrum ask themselves — about masking, meltdowns versus tantrums, staying safe online, bullying, friendships, dating, and what comes after high school There's also a short section at the front for parents, therapists, or teachers, explaining the thinking behind the book. This isn't meant to replace therapy or a real conversation with someone who knows your kid. It's something to sit alongside that — written for the teenager who's actually going to read it, not just the adult buying it.
