It had been a long day. Business meetings, client meetings, remote conferencing and the
Whole shebang, all within a day’s work. The fact that I was going to do it again the
following day or the day after that didn’t sit well with me. It was the sort of job that you
hated but you have no other choice but to get there. The pay was big, the opportunities
bigger and the amount of stress generated with such a high profile, high paying company
was directly proportional to the other two factors described.
“Good evening Sophie.” Artie the doorman greeted me as I walked out the front door of
the lobby.
It was a humid night so I took off my blazer as I walked towards the direction I always
headed for after work – the train station, a little inconvenient but something necessary. It
was a long walk too but taking a taxi there with the evening rush hour in full blast was
not worth it, I’d get there late and will have to wait for the next train - a prospect that
doesn’t sit well with me.
