VIOLA NELSON (not abaack) is a mentally and physically active 103 old lady. She graduated from Hamline University in 1929 with a major in English. She has always loved writing and won a national essay contest as a 4-Her. After graduation she taught country school in Minnesota. She married a young farmer who grew up about two miles from her and gave up writing to rear four children and, after they were gone, a number of foster teenage girls. Eventually she returned to her writing and expects to publish a book of her essays. When her sister returned the letters she had received from Viola during WWII, Viola's children, nieces, and nephews found them a fascinating story of life in the 40's and convinced Viola to publish them for the family and others who might find them interesting and of historical value. Having been widowed in 1984 Viola lived alone on her Minnesota farm until two years ago when she moved in with her daughter, Margaret, a retired physician in Wisconsin.
